The start of a brand new school year is always an exciting experience for children, parents, teachers, and other school staff. With the 2010-2011 school year starting up for many children during the next couple of weeks, this is the time for everyone to reflect on the importance of ensuring the best quality of education for Deaf/Hard-of-hearing children. If we all take a moment to put ourselves in the D/HH child’s shoes and critically examine the education environment from their eyes, we will gain some tools to improve certain areas of their instruction, especially with language and literacy. If we make the commitment to provide them with consistent access to ASL and English, as well as to make literacy FUN, then strides will be made in the children’s learning! Remember, we work for the children! Best wishes for a wonderful school year!
